The 2002 Vermouth Cask is a limited rare cask finished, cask strength (48.2% ABV) and non chill-filtered Irish single malt that’s been distilled, matured, finished and bottled at the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery.
After maturing for over 18 years in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, Alex Thomas, Bushmills Master Blender, finished this enticing one-time-release whiskey in unique vermouth casks.
The fortified herbal wine from the Piedmont region of Italy previously housed in these French oak casks bring an abundance of delicate summer floral aromas, like rose petals and gentle herbaceous notes. And where others might re-cask their whiskey for just six months or so, Bushmills have added deeper waves of flavour by maturing these in vermouth casks for almost two years.
The years have ripened the summer flavours, adding mouth-watering notes of mandarin orange and a deeper rich fruitcake sweetness. It’s a sensational whiskey that stands with the best of Irish single malt, a giant in its own right.
