Domaine Boutinot Argiles Blanches Blanc

The Argiles Blanches Blanc comes from the southern Rhône Valley, an area known for its diverse soils and favourable climate, which contribute significantly to the character of its wines. The name “Argiles Blanches” translates to “white clays,” indicating the soil composition where the grapes are grown. These clay-rich soils provide excellent water retention, which is crucial in the hot, dry climate of the region. The result is grapes that achieve perfect ripeness while maintaining acidity, crucial for crafting well-balanced wines.

The vineyard practices at Domaine Boutinot emphasize sustainable agriculture, with a focus on minimal intervention. The philosophy here is to allow the terroir to speak through the wine, with the winemakers acting as stewards rather than controllers of the process. This respect for nature is evident in the wine’s purity and expression of place.

A blend of Grenache, Roussanne and Clairette, the grapes are hand-harvested to ensure only the best fruit is used. The fermentation process takes place in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels. This blend of fermentation methods helps retain the fresh, fruity qualities of the wine while also adding depth and structure through gentle oak influence.

On the nose, it offers an inviting bouquet of white flowers, citrus fruits, and stone fruits like peach and apricot, underscored by subtle notes of honey and almond.

On the palate, the wine is both elegant and expansive. The initial burst of fresh citrus and green apple gives way to a richer mid-palate, where the stone fruit is complemented by hints of brioche and vanilla from the oak aging. The texture is smooth and creamy, yet balanced by a refreshing acidity that carries through to a long, satisfying finish with a touch of minerality.

An excellent companion to creamy poultry dishes, seafood, and shellfish, particularly lobster or scallops. The wine’s acidity also complements lighter fare like salads with citrus dressings, grilled vegetables, and soft cheeses such as brie or camembert.
