Tenuta Le Colonne is in Donoratico, in the southernmost part of the Bolgheri appellation. This is an area kissed by the sun, overlooking the sea, with rows of pine trees standing sentinel to a unique and evocative landscape. In this paradise, the estate is located in a strategic position, being the winery with the vineyards closest to the sea in the entire denomination, just a few steps from the beach.  It boasts about 60 hectares of vineyards, with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Merlot, as well as white grapes such as Vermentino, mostly planted beyond the Aurelia Road, on extremely sandy soils.

The combination of geological formations outcropping at Tenuta Le Colonne is absolutely exceptional with origins of marine, continental and volcanic soils. The rocky substrate is made up of alternating limestone and marl of marine origin. On the slope that descends towards the sea we find the presence of volcanic rhyolites and Red Sands of the Val di Gori, the result of alluvial deposits. These are the areas dedicated to the red grape varieties which then give life to our Bolgheri Rosso and Bolgheri Superiore.  In the marine plain, below 50 MSL, where the soils are very deep, of alluvial origin and younger, the Vermentino vineyards are cultivated.

The juice goes through soft and gentle pressing. Fermentation is in stainless steel for about 12 days and ageing in stainless steel for 3 months.

This is elegant and delicate with notes of lime, white peach, exotic and floral hints of sage and hawthorn. Extremely savoury with a pleasantly mineral finish.

Vermentino pairs well with fish and seafood recipes. It also has the body to stand up to rich tomato dishes like ratatouille, and it can be magnificent with pasta dishes and pesto pasta recipes.
