Arinto is one of Portugal’s oldest and most distinctive white grape varieties, prized for its high acidity and ability to retain freshness even in warm climates. While it is grown in several regions across Portugal, it is in Vinho Verde that Arinto truly shines. Here, the cooler Atlantic breezes and the region’s unique granitic soils contribute to the grape’s vibrant acidity and mineral character.
Often compared to wines made from grapes like Albariño or Sauvignon Blanc, Arinto offers something uniquely Portuguese. Its wines are typically aromatic, with citrus, green apple, and sometimes tropical fruit notes, balanced by a zesty acidity that makes them exceptionally food-friendly and perfect for warm weather sipping.
Quinta de Vila Nova, the estate behind Vila Nova Arinto, has been producing wines in the Vinho Verde region for decades. Managed by the Lencastre family, who have deep roots in Portuguese winemaking, the estate focuses on blending tradition with modern techniques to produce wines that are both expressive and accessible. Their commitment to quality is evident in every bottle, from the careful selection of grapes to the precise winemaking process.
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve their acidity and aromatic potential. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed, and the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. This approach ensures that the wine retains its fresh fruit, crisp acidity.
Bright lemon citrus characters on the nose. The palate is fresh with zesty acidity, hints of peach and grapefruit, and a pleasant minerality on the finish.
Perfect with all manner of fish and seafood – such as scallops, crab or lobster in a citrus butter.
